The New Ford Fathom
Ford Fathom Coming Soon to Astoria Ford in Warrenton, OR
The Ford brand is introducing a new EV pickup truck to its lineup: the Ford Fathom. The Ford brand is introducing an all-new electric pickup called the Ford Fathom expanding its growing EV lineup. However, the Ford team is keeping specs and features close to the chest, leaving us with little information to provide. Learn what we know so far about the Ford Fathom right here at Astoria Ford.
Pre-Orders in 2027
As the newest Ford pickup EV, expect the Fathom to officially arrive in 2028. However, keep in mind that the Ford brand says pre-orders for the 2028 Ford Fathom will start in early 2027. Reports also suggest that the Fathom will start at $28,000, making it one of the most affordable new electric trucks available near Astoria.
The Fathom is a Midsize Truck
Unlike the previous Ford F-150 Lightning, the Ford Fathom will be a midsize truck. While the Ford brand does offer a hybrid Ford Maverick pickup truck, this will be the first fully electric Ford midsize pickup truck. This body size will ensure an easier transition from the city to the countryside around Tillamook.
Built on the Ford Universal EV Platform
The Ford Fathom will feature the Ford brand's Universal EV Platform. The Universal EV Platform is a next-generation, purpose-built EV architecture designed to provide more affordable, more straightforward offerings to shoppers around Long Beach, WA, and beyond. The Universal EV Platform will also underpin several, if not all, of the brand's yet-to-be-announced future EVs.
What Specs Do We Know?
So far, there is very little to digest yet. However, we do know the brand is aiming for a 4.5-second 60-mph acceleration time. We also know that the brand wants to provide more space for occupants to stretch out in and relax on drives around Seaside, OR.
How Significant is the Price?
When speaking about the Ford Fathom at this early stage, it is impossible not to fixate on the claimed $28,000 price tag. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, vehicle prices around Beaverton continue to rise. So, it comes as a surprise that the next EV from the Ford brand is now under $30,000. A very limited number of vehicles across all brands and vehicle fuel types fall under $30,000. When it arrives, it will be one of the brand's most affordable vehicles.
How Will the Ford Fathom Compare to Similar EV Trucks?
While there are almost no specs available near Longview, WA, yet, we can surmise from the affordable price tag that the Ford Fathom will come with fewer creature comforts and technologies than more expensive models offer. There are also a few direct competitors for the Ford Fathom; the biggest competitor of note is the new Slate truck. The electric Slate truck is a subcompact "micro-sized" pickup truck, earning attention for its claimed versatility and customizability. When comparing it to the Ford Fathom on name alone, we expect the Fathom to offer a few more creature comforts than the "blank" slate of the Slate truck. Overall, we expect the Ford Fathom to be a competitive vehicle.
